Love ‘em or hate ‘ em, New Year’s resolutions are popular for a reason. The new year is an ideal time to review the past 12 months and envision the next 12. If you’re a homeowner, the beginning of the year is also the perfect opportunity to consider your ambitions, big and small, for your property.
With that in mind, we’ve come up with five great goals to turn your house into the home of your dreams this year. As you determine your New Year’s resolutions for 2017, consider adding some—or all—of these to your list.
New Year’s Resolution #1:
Make Sure Your Home Maintenance Is Up to Date
Most homeowners have a list of minor repairs to get done … eventually. Instead of watching your to-dos grow, commit to checking items off the list. Start with smaller jobs and work your way up to bigger fixes. Don’t have time? Hire a handyman. Trust us when we say that the cost is worth the peace of mind. It’s going to feel so good to be on top of your home maintenance once more.
New Year’s Resolution #2:
Ditch the Stuff You Don’t Use
We’re going to guess that you have more than one closet in your home—or an entire garage—full of junk that’s just gathering dust. Embrace your inner Marie Kondo and change your (home) life with a commitment to tidying up. No magic required: Pick a weekend, any weekend, and start purging. Anything you don’t use—and this includes clothes, cooking tools, and even furniture—put in a pile to be donated to the charity of your choice. Do this regularly and you’ll never again have to devote an entire weekend to this less-than-fun activity.
New Year’s Resolution #3:
Fix Your Feng Shui
Everyone has that one room in their house where something just feels off. Maybe the space isn’t comfortable or it’s not functional or it’s just plain unattractive. Whatever the reason, it probably irks you every day. Well, no more. Let 2017 be the year you create spaces that make you happy. Try rearranging your furniture, adding a statement piece, painting the walls, or even swapping an old item for a new purchase you’re actually excited about.
New Year’s Resolution #4:
Aim for One Major Update
The remodeling process can be intimidating, but we at Valley Home Builders do anything we can to make it as painless as possible. In fact, the hardest part is often deciding which change is most important to you. Where to start? Spend a week or two brainstorming all the changes you’d make if you could, then narrow that list down to only those updates that would benefit you most on a day-to-day basis. Once you’ve mulled it over, contact Valley Home Builders for a free consultation. We’ll walk you through what’s possible for your space.
New Year’s Resolution #5:
Establish a Plan of Attack
Now that you know what you want to accomplish in your home this year, it’s time to make it happen. We all know how easy it is to forget about our ambitious plans before January is even over. To prevent New Year’s resolutions burnout, create a doable plan for the year that relies on realistic goals broken down by month or quarter. And if you can’t quite make everything happen, don’t beat yourself up. There’s always next year!
